Name: Patrick
Type: Saved

A few years ago I was incarcerated in a county jail. I had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for most of my life. I was raised in the church, but never truly experienced Christ. It was about a month in to my four month sentence for burglary, and I was completely broken. I was on the verge of suicide. I actually had told one of the correction officers of my plan to commit suicide and was sent to a special cell for the night where I spent the night naked wrapped in a "turtle suit" which is a essentially a thick pad worn as clothes and wrapped around you so you can not hurt yourself. After this I was moved to a new "unit" or cell block. It is here my life was changed. I had continued to use whatever pills I could obtain in the jail up to this point. A man came up to me and asked me if I was still doing these kinds of things while incarcerated, wouldn't I continue to be the person I was when I was released? This made me breakdown. I believe I had spoke to a fellow Christian that was incarcerated and had recently experienced Christ and allowed him into his heart. After doing this I went into my cell and literally cried out to God for help. I remember literally crying on my knees and begging God to help me. I remember clearly stating to God that I didn't even know how to pray, but needed help. Later that day a little red book entitled "Prayers" was tossed into my cell by someone. I instantly began reading it, specifically the first part of the book (Pages. i - xlix). I took every action and said every prayer. I even went to a fellow man who was Christian in the cell next to me, and told him what I had done. Later that night or the next day I was asked to go to a bible study by the man I had told about what I had done. In this bible study Christ literally spoke to me through the man leading it. I responded and yelled out loud "what do I have to do" as I believe Christ was really speaking to me through this man. At that moment I was told I was going to heaven and was delivered from my addictions. I let Christ into my heart. To this day this has been the changing point of my life. I want to thank you for leading me to excepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and turning my life over to him. God bless you and your work
